As a Senior Engineering Manager at PayPal, you’ll lead high-performing development teams through every phase of the software lifecycle. In this role, you’ll help shape the future of the payments experience by providing technical direction, delivering key initiatives, and building strong cross-functional partnerships. You’ll foster a culture of engineering excellence by mentoring talent, optimizing team operations, and guiding your team’s growth as both technologists and collaborators.

Provide strong technical leadership to software engineering teams, fostering a culture rooted in collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Define clear objectives and key results (OKRs), and consistently deliver against them while driving measurable improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs).
Accelerate team productivity and delivery velocity through effective leadership, process optimization, and strategic support.
Develop, prioritize, and execute engineering roadmaps that deliver meaningful value and high-quality experiences to our customers.
Partner cross-functionally to align technical execution with product vision and business goals, ensuring cohesive and impactful outcomes.
Champion end-to-end ownership across the software development lifecyclefrom ideation to deliveryfor the products, features, and services your team owns.

Your Day-to-Day:

Provide strong technical leadership and guidance to software engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Define clear objectives and key results (OKRs), and consistently deliver against them while driving measurable improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs).
Accelerate team productivity and delivery velocity through effective leadership, process optimization, and strategic support.
Develop, prioritize, and execute engineering roadmaps that deliver meaningful value and high-quality experiences for our customers.
Collaborate and coordinate across teams and functions to ensure technical, product, and business objectives are met.
Instill end-to-end ownership of products, projects, features, modules, and services that you and your team deliver in all phases of the software development lifecycle.

What do you need to bring:

15+ years of experience in the software industry, with 5+ years of professional experience leading software development teams.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex technical and non-technical challenges.
Experience building and developing engineering teams that exhibit strong ownership, user empathy, and engineering excellence.
Proven track record of delivering high-quality systems and software in Java/J2EE technologies and distributed systems.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders’ expectations.
Ability to coach and mentor talent to reach their full potential.
Experience in building large-scale, high-throughput, low-latency systems.
Strong understanding of software development methodologies, modern technology topics and frameworks, and developer operations best practices.

Essential Responsibilities:

Manages multiple projects through direct reports and may directly manage individual software development projects. Ensures project delivery through supervision of costs, methods, and staffing
Sets operational targets that impact their group and drives operational rigor around engineering KPIs such as unit test coverage, uptime/resiliency targets, execution velocity
Responsible for the delivery of projects and continuous improvement that impact up to three domains
Leads the effort in resolving highly complex or unique technical situations that impact business success or addresses future concepts, products, or technologies
Creates the roadmap for multiple scrum teams. Responsible for turning a high-level operational strategy into a well-defined resourcing plan
Demonstrates perseverance in pursuing difficult, complex, or ambiguous goals or problems, applying advanced analytical thought and judgment.
Collaborates with direct team, managers in org, stakeholders, managers in other orgs and business stakeholders
